Life Experience of a Cancer Scare, continued.
| September11th, 2005
My wife got in a conversation this
evening with a lady who's husband died of prostate cancer in April
of 2005. The guy had a PSA level of 9. He had his PSA checked
3 months after the surgery and it was at a 3.0. They ran every test
imaginable and final found that the cancer had migrated. He was dead
4 months later. Now my wife has been upset ever since. I explained
to her that everyone is different. Mine was caught very early. All
she kept bring up was something Doc Ney mentioned during our first
consultation. Doc Ney " In cases like yours I
never recommend bone scans unless the patient wants one to settle
their minds." At the time I opted not too. My wife
asked me today if I would do it for her. Well hell, I've been
married 35 years and I know who's in charge. So I will be
calling the doctor in the AM to set up the appointment. Hopefully
this will calm some of her fears.
I emailed my friend in OK today
to wish him well. He was able to move his surgery up a couple of
weeks. I did have to tell him that I already picked the nick name "
Grandpa Piss Stain" and he would have to pick another such as " * *
* * the flight suit soiler". My friend is understandable upset
about his whole situation. I truly hope he can get a good outlook on
the whole thing. Shoot the guy is may be looking at a transfer
to Hawaii, man what a place to recover. I will be recovering
at my retail store. That's all for today. Smile at your
enemies, hug and kiss your family.

Made contact with Dr Ney's office
today to discuss the Bone scan test. The doctor's assistant
was able set up the bone scan for Tuesday at 12:30pm. As I
understand the process, I go in at 12:30 to be shot up with the dye.
I go do something for 3-4 hours and come back for the scan.
Now what is really upsetting about the whole thing, is the nurse
says I won't glow in the dark. Doesn't that bite, at least a
guy could be a party favor for a day or so, oh well.
On the blood pressure front,
it's still going up and down. I'm getting really burned out on
being dizzy and having no energy, I'm use to being able to put in a
60 -70 hr work week, not 25- 30 hour week. The dizzy feeling
can only be described as being like you are on an amusement ride.
The only thing I can do is quote my 2 year old grand daughter " Wee
Pa dats fun". Not! Oh well if you look at the doctors credentials it
states "License to Practice Medicine" and they are doing a
good job of practicing. Well that is all the info I have today
other than whining about some more stuff. Oh I only have to
lose 5lbs now. The salad, frozen diet meals and sugar free popsicle
diet is working.

The bone scan is all over, now
like all the other tests I have to wait for the results. I
didn't see anything as I watched my skeleton grow on the computer
screen. Then again what the hell do I know besides what I read on
the internet, other than I really don't think the Cancer is any
place else. Procedure was painless , in fact I almost fell a
sleep. I arrived about 12:30 and after a few short medical
history questions the nurse injected the dye into my arm. I had to
ask again if I might glow in the dark or at least when I wizzed in
the dark it would be like a laser show. But now such luck, darn. I
left for the required 2.5 to 3 hours all the while drink a bunch of
liquids and going to the bathroom. When I got back at the
hospital the new duty nurse put me n the table and started up the
machine. My only worry was that as the thing lowered it would stop
before it smashed my nose. After about 7 minutes when your head
clears the machine you can watch the computer screen. It's
pretty neat watching your skeleton appear a little bit at a time.
The only bright spot I could see on the screen was my bladder and
the nurse says that's normal. The whole thing took about 30-40
minutes if you include the time it took to take off all the metal (
2 guns, handcuffs, spare magazines, knife, badge, wallet with badge
and keys). The nurse told me to get my stuff back on while she
checked with the radiologist to see if the test was correct or she
wanted anything else. Five minutes later I'm on the road and back to
work. So if you haven't had yours yet don't stress over it. It
is quick, easy and maybe even a little boring.
23 days to go and counting. I'm
ready to get r done. I hate waiting on stuff. I did get to
speak with a guy who had the deVinci procedure last year. He is
happy with the way it all went and is still clear. He did say
if I come back to work at the store in 3-4 days then I'm a better
man than he is. Man I love a challenge!

Doctor Ney's nurse called today
with the result from my recent Bone Scan. She said everything else
was clear. The test did show the beginnings of arthritis in my
ankles and few other places ( no surprise to me). So now maybe my
wife will be a little less nervous. We are down to 20days and
counting. My friend went under the blade yesterday and we are
waiting for information from his wife. We presume they didn't off
him! I'm trying to get a copy of my bone scan, with any
luck it will be on DVD and shows the skeleton grow as I observed
during the test. Would make a great view if you could speed it up
and make it look like the old Beam me up Scotty look from Star trek.
Nothing New, don't imagine I will have anything new until the
Surgery. If so I will post it here.

We spoke with our
friends wife today. His surgery went very well and is already home
wandering around the edge of the lake. He was given a big bottle of
LorTab ( drugs), and says he doesn't need them anymore. He was
told that for the next 10 days try to stick to a liquid diet. "A
LIQUID DIET" Poop I'm going to drop 10-15 more pounds during the 10
days. I was so looking forward to my wife bring me some Sauerbraten
and Spetzel (homemade noodles) into the hospital. For those of you
not familiar that's German Soul Food. Any way our friend is
doing well. just hope he gets some nourishment besides his favorite
hops beverage.
I'm down to 19
days. Still haven't been told which local hosptial I will be going
to: IU Med Center or Community North. Thank you again to all the
well wishers.
